Nigeria, no longer Africa’s largest economy
After a series of currency devaluations, Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria will slip to fourth according to figures from the International Monetary Fund. South Africa climbs to first position with Egypt in second. Nigeria’s GDP fell to $253 billion while the country’s currency, the Naira, is 50% weaker since the election of President Tinubu.
South Africa’s GDP stands at $373 billion while Egypt is at $348 billion. Read More.
Kenya-Uganda, milk wars
The seemingly never ending love-hate trade relationship between East African neighbours, Uganda and Kenya is set to take a positive turn after authorities in Kenya agreed to increase the number of milk importing permits from Uganda due to expected upcoming shortages. But Brookside Uganda (owned by Kenya’s former ruling family, The Kenyatta’s) will not benefit from the permit increments. Uganda exports 86.6% of her milk to other EAC countries. Read More.
Nigeria’s Chess Champion
If you are not living under a rock, you might have heard of the news of Nigeria’s chess Champion, Tunde Onakoya who set a new world record for longest unbeaten chess marathon playing for 60 hours surpassing the previous record of 56 hours.
The 29 year old Education activist set his sights on the World Record in attempt to raise awareness and raise funds for his organisation, Chess in Slums Africa. Tunde’s goal was to raise $1 million. Read More. Ai
